Changes in Trademark Registration in Kazakhstan (Effective from 1 January 2026)As of 1 January 2026, legislative changes in Kazakhstan relating to taxation and mandatory state contributions have entered into force. These changes directly impact official fees and procedures for trademark registration. The National Institute of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Kazakhstan has introduced updated official tariffs, revised requirements for forming lists of goods and services, and an extended opposition period. Key Updates:
The VAT rate has increased from 12% to 16%, resulting in a corresponding increase in official trademark fees.
- Trademark applications are now limited to 10 goods or services per class.
- An additional official fee applies for each good or service exceeding the 10-item limit within the same class.
The opposition period has been extended to two months from the date of publication of information on the filed trademark application.
These changes make proper classification and strategic structuring of goods and services lists more important than ever. Incorrect planning may lead to:
